Description

Andromeda (M31) on 16/09/2023 in Hamois, Belgium

Skywatcher Esprit 120ED telescope with a focal length of 646mm and a 0.77x reducer corrector - 1.5 hours of exposure (180s x 30) with an unfiltered Nikon Z7 camera, IDAS LPS P3 filter, Skywatcher AZ-EQ6 mount, TS 60mm/240mm guide telescope, and ASI290MM guide camera.

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31 in the Messier Catalogue and NGC 224, is a spiral galaxy located approximately 2.55 million light-years from the Sun in the constellation of Andromeda. With a diameter of about 220,000 light-years, it is believed to contain around one trillion stars, two to five times more than our own galaxy. With a visual magnitude of 3.4, the Andromeda Galaxy is one of the few galaxies visible to the naked eye from Earth in the northern hemisphere. It is also one of the largest objects in the night sky, with an apparent diameter of 3.18 degrees, which is over six times the apparent diameter of the Moon as seen from Earth.
